Both options presented here are for a covered porch, but not an enclosed space. They will both provide a degree of shelter from the rain to the deck, while giving good protection to the door and still allowing ambient light in.
In both cases the vertical timber clad form provides recessed storage for shoes and a place to sit to take off your shoes or hang up your coat.
I have designed both in a way which is very simple to build while still looking interesting. The roof is squared up with the rear and right hand side wall so that no funny angles need to be cut with the roofing iron. The existing deck, windows, down-pipe, wall lights and meter box are all unaffected.
